IMAGE PROVENANCE · SOURCES AND REUSE NOTICES

Image sources and credits.

Historical reference scans, player photographs and sport-context photographs have different purposes and rights bases. Each file keeps its own source, creator and reuse notice. These notices apply to the image, not unrelated site code or editorial text.

Historical card-reference scans

16 selected catalog issues have reference artwork. The images illustrate issue designs; CardRoster has not authenticated physical specimens, ruled out reprints or assigned condition. Source notices document public-domain status in named countries, with the stated research limitations. Most catalog entries remain text references.

George Mikan — 1948 Bowman #69, front

George Mikan’s 1948 Bowman #69 front: Lakers uniform against a blue background.

Bowman, via Wikimedia Commons (Scewing). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The file page identifies the 1948 Bowman work and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed, including its Bowman-specific renewal notice. This is an underlying-artwork notice, rather than an uploader’s Own work license. The claim is scoped to US copyright status; countries without a matching shorter-term rule may differ. CardRoster did not independently search renewal registers.

An unaltered front scan linked by Commons to a Heritage #69 reference. It illustrates this issue; CardRoster has not authenticated the physical card, excluded reprints, or verified condition. No reverse is available in this asset.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-07.

Jim Brown — 1958 Topps #62, front

Jim Brown’s 1958 Topps #62 front: Jimmy Brown caption and oval action photograph.

Topps artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The per-file page dates the underlying work to 1958 and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed. The reuse basis is that notice, not the linked marketplace source or the uploader’s ownership of a scan. US copyright status is documented; no worldwide permission or independent renewal-register search is claimed.

Front artwork for the #62 issue; the separately sourced reverse visibly carries #62. The two files are not established as scans of the same physical copy. CardRoster has not authenticated either specimen or ruled out reprints.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-07.

Jim Brown — 1958 Topps #62, reverse

Jim Brown’s 1958 Topps #62 reverse: printed number, biography and statistics, with the source’s sideways text orientation.

Topps artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

This reverse has its own Commons file page and explicit PD-US-not-renewed notice for the 1958 underlying work. US copyright status is documented; no worldwide permission or independent renewal-register search is claimed.

The printed #62 is visible. This independently sourced reverse is not established as the same physical specimen as the front scan. Authentication, original-versus-reprint status, and condition are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG, including the source orientation; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-07.

Riley Hern — 1910–11 C56 #22, front

Riley Hern’s 1910–11 C56 #22 front: printed number above his Montreal Wanderers portrait.

Riley Hern C56 scan, via Wikimedia Commons (Fairhop). Canadian and US public-domain notices.

Public domain in Canada and the United States

The per-file page dates the work to 1910–1912 and explicitly applies PD-Canada and PD-US-expired to the underlying artwork. The US basis is publication before 1931; the Canadian notice records expired copyright. Commons’s publisher attribution is not treated as settled catalog evidence: PSA describes C56 as unattributed, with Imperial Tobacco a proposed attribution.

The full front visibly prints No. 22 and Riley Hern of Wanderers Club. PSA’s set identity uses 1910–11; Commons’s broader date range does not establish another edition. No back is supplied. Physical authenticity, reprint status, and condition are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-07.

Joseph Cattarinich — 1910–11 C56 #16, front

Joseph Cattarinich’s 1910–11 C56 #16 front: Canadiens sweater and printed surname Cattarinigh.

Library and Archives Canada / C-079722; C.J. Haynes, donor, via Wikimedia Commons. Canadian and US public-domain notices.

Public domain in Canada and the United States

The per-file page explicitly records Library and Archives Canada’s public-domain permission statement and applies PD-Canada and PD-US-expired to the circa 1910–1912 card artwork. The US basis is publication before 1931. The legacy archive link could not be reopened during this review; the quoted archive statement and per-file notices remain visible on Commons.

No. 16 and the printed surname Cattarinigh are visible; catalog spelling follows Joseph Cattarinich. This small archive scan provides the full front, without a reverse or condition assessment. Physical authenticity and original-versus-reprint status are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-07.

Alex Raisbeck — 1902 Wills Football Series #24, front

Alex Raisbeck’s 1902 Wills front: grayscale portrait, Football Series No. 24 and A. G. Raisbeck, Liverpool captions.

Alex Raisbeck Wills Football Series scan, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). UK anonymous-work and US expired-copyright notices.

Public domain in the United Kingdom and the United States, per file notices

The per-file page identifies the 1902 work and explicitly applies PD-UK for anonymous artwork published more than 70 years ago, plus PD-US-expired for publication before 1931. These concern the underlying card, not merely the scan uploader’s rights. The UK notice depends on an unascertainable author; CardRoster records Commons’s assessment without claiming an independent author investigation.

The front prints Football Series No. 24 and A. G. Raisbeck, Liverpool. PSA’s registry and a Fanatics Collect reference corroborate the issue. The auction’s Wild Woodbine specimen does not establish this scan’s back; no Wild Woodbine, Cinderella, printing variant, authentication, reprint, or condition claim is made.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Stanley Meredith — 1907–08 Cohen Weenen Football Captains, front

Stanley Meredith’s 1907–08 Football Captains front: green cap, blue sweater, orange background and Meredith caption.

Cohen Weenen Football Captains artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). UK anonymous-work, faithful-reproduction and US expired-copyright notices.

Public domain in the United Kingdom and the United States, per file notices

The file page dates the work to 1907 and explicitly applies PD-Art with a UK anonymous-work basis, plus PD-US-expired. This documents underlying-work and faithful-reproduction status, rather than an uploader-only license. The UK anonymous-author condition is recorded from Commons; CardRoster does not claim an independent author investigation.

The full front prints only Meredith. A healthy Fanatics Collect photograph of the same artwork visibly labels Stanley Meredith, 1907–08 Cohen Weenen, Football Captains. The catalog’s 1907 year follows the auction title; NN means no supplied card number, not a printed NN. No reverse, physical authentication, reprint exclusion, or condition assessment is supplied.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Arthur Spector — 1948 Bowman #57, front

Arthur Spector’s 1948 Bowman #57 front: Celtics uniform against red, inside a white border.

Bowman artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The file page identifies the 1948 Bowman work and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed plus its Bowman-specific renewal notice to the underlying card artwork. CardRoster uses that assessment for this 1948 work only, without extrapolating it to other Bowman issues or claiming an independent renewal-register search. US copyright status is documented; other territories may differ.

The front preserves the white card border and red-background Celtics depiction. PSA’s exact #57 CardFacts record and registry gallery corroborate the issue. The jersey number is not the card number. No reverse is supplied; physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, condition, and any overprint on an unseen back are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

George Senesky — 1948 Bowman #25, front

George Senesky’s 1948 Bowman #25 front: raised arm, Phila uniform and red background inside a white border.

Bowman artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The per-file page dates the Bowman work to 1948 and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed with its Bowman-specific notice to the underlying card artwork. The file’s current larger version preserves the white border. CardRoster did not independently search renewal registers or infer worldwide permission from the US notice; the statement is not extended to other issues.

PSA’s registry gallery identifies 1948 Bowman #25 George Senesky. This front shows the Phila jersey’s player number, which is distinct from the catalog card number. No reverse establishes a back variation or overprint. Physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, and condition are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Emlen Tunnell — 1957 Topps #35, front

Emlen Tunnell’s 1957 Topps #35 front: Em Tunnell caption, Giants portrait and action panels.

Topps artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The per-file page identifies the 1957 work and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed to its underlying artwork. That notice supplies the reuse basis; the linked marketplace search is not treated as permission. CardRoster records the US assessment without an independent renewal-register search or a worldwide license claim.

The full horizontal front reads Em Tunnell and Back—Giants. PSA’s 1957 Topps Hall of Fame subset composition identifies Emlen Tunnell #35. This is a front-only illustration: the reverse number, physical authenticity, reprint status, and condition are not verified for this specimen.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Joe Perry — 1957 Topps #129, front

Joe Perry’s 1957 Topps #129 front: blue portrait panel, yellow action panel and 49ers caption.

Topps artwork, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The Commons file explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed to the underlying 1957 card artwork. Its marketplace source does not itself license reproduction. The documented scope is the United States; no independent renewal search or permission in every jurisdiction is claimed.

The full front prints Joe Perry and Back—49ers. PSA’s exact CardFacts #129 record and 1957 Topps Hall of Fame subset composition corroborate the issue. No reverse is supplied; the physical specimen’s authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, and condition remain unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Carl Kendall — 1912 C57 #35, front

Carl Kendall’s 1912 C57 #35 front: grayscale portrait with C. Kendall, Vancouver captions.

Carl Kendall C57 scan, via Wikimedia Commons (PM800). US public-domain notice for the 1912 artwork.

Public domain in the United States — expired copyright, per file notice

The file page identifies C57 and dates the underlying work to 1912. It explicitly applies a US public-domain notice based on expired copyright, including pre-1931 publication. The same page cautions that other territories may differ. No additional Canadian notice or worldwide permission is asserted, and the external source link is not treated as a license.

The complete small front prints C. Kendall and Vancouver. PSA’s 1912 C57 issue table identifies Carl Kendall #35. The catalog number is not visible on this front; no reverse, printing-variant determination, physical authentication, reprint exclusion, or condition assessment is supplied.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG at its small source resolution; no crop, enlargement, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Joe Dennison — 1912 C57 #42, front

Joe Dennison’s 1912 C57 #42 front: grayscale Ottawa portrait with Joe Dennison caption.

Joe Dennison C57 scan, via Wikimedia Commons (PM800). US public-domain notice for the 1912 artwork.

Public domain in the United States — expired copyright, per file notice

The per-file page describes a C57 card dated 1912 and explicitly applies an expired-copyright US public-domain notice to the underlying work. Its pre-1931 date supports the documented US scope. The page does not establish additional Canadian or worldwide reuse rights; CardRoster does not infer them from the scan uploader or external source.

The complete front visibly reads Joe Dennison and Ottawa. PSA’s 1912 C57 issue table identifies #42; the number itself is not visible on this front. No reverse, printing-variant determination, physical authentication, reprint exclusion, or condition assessment is supplied.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG at its small source resolution; no crop, enlargement, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

S. Bloomer — 1902 Wills Football Series #9, front

S. Bloomer’s 1902 Wills front: Football Series No. 9 and Derby County caption.

Wills Football Series artwork; printed photo credit Russell, Crystal Palace, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). UK anonymous-work and US expired-copyright notices.

Public domain in the United Kingdom and the United States, per file notices

The per-file page dates the work to 1902 and explicitly applies PD-UK for anonymous artwork published more than 70 years ago, plus PD-US-expired for pre-1931 publication. The front supplies a photographer’s business credit although Commons lists the original author as unknown. CardRoster records this distinction: the UK anonymous-author condition has not been independently investigated, and no worldwide permission is claimed.

The front visibly prints Football Series No. 9 and S. Bloomer, Derby County. PSA’s registry gallery corroborates the 1902 Wills #9 identity. No reverse establishes a Wild Woodbine, Cinderella, or other back variant. Physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, and condition remain unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

L. Bell — 1902 Wills Football Series #17, front

L. Bell’s 1902 Wills front: Football Series No. 17, striped shirt and Bolton Wanderers caption.

Wills Football Series artwork; printed photo credit Thiele, London, via Wikimedia Commons (Fma12). UK anonymous-work and US expired-copyright notices.

Public domain in the United Kingdom and the United States, per file notices

The 1902 file explicitly records PD-UK-unknown and PD-US-expired for the underlying artwork. The UK notice requires an author who cannot be ascertained by reasonable enquiry. Commons lists that author as unknown, while the front visibly credits a photographer’s business, Thiele, London. CardRoster preserves that credit and the conditional scope of Commons’s UK assessment without claiming an independent author investigation. US expired-copyright status is separately documented; no worldwide license is asserted.

The front prints Football Series No. 17 and L. Bell, Bolton Wanderers, matching PSA’s 1902 Wills registry #17 row. The printed initial is preserved rather than expanded from an unsupported biography. No reverse establishes a back variant; physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, and condition are unverified.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG; no crop, recolor, restoration, or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Johnny Unitas — 1958 Topps #22, front

Johnny Unitas’s 1958 Topps #22 complete front: orange background, oval Colts photograph and printed John Unitas caption.

Topps artwork, via Wikimedia Commons. US public-domain notice: copyright not renewed.

Public domain in the United States — copyright not renewed

The per-file Commons page identifies the dated Topps issue and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed to the underlying card artwork. CardRoster records that US public-domain assessment without an independent copyright-renewal search or a worldwide permission claim. The external scan source and uploader’s ownership alone are not treated as artwork permission.

The complete front prints John Unitas and Baltimore Colts; PSA’s 1958 Topps profile and #22 CardFacts record corroborate the Johnny/John subject alias. The card number is not visible on this front. No reverse, back variation, physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status or condition is established.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG, including the complete source front and its card border; no crop, recolor, restoration, enlargement or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.

Bart Starr — 1960 Topps #51, front

The per-file Commons page identifies the dated Topps issue and explicitly applies PD-US-not-renewed to the underlying card artwork. CardRoster records that US public-domain assessment without an independent copyright-renewal search or a worldwide permission claim. The external scan source and uploader’s ownership alone are not treated as artwork permission.

The complete small front prints Bart Starr, Green Bay Packers and quarterback. Commons describes 1960 Topps #51, corroborated by PSA’s exact #51 CardFacts record and set profile. No reverse, back variation, physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status or condition is established.

Unmodified Commons original JPEG, including the complete source front and its card border; no crop, recolor, restoration, enlargement or generated artwork. Image record reviewed 2026-10-08.
