Research methodology

Identify the issue before drawing a conclusion.

Sources and review dates

Every catalog entry links a primary grader, maker or auction reference and records its review date. A source record supports the described issue; it does not authenticate a card offered elsewhere. Card numbers and full set names remain visible.

Rookie and edition wording

Rookie status is issue-specific. Early issue wording remains qualified where the source does not establish an earliest appearance. Soccer stickers are identified in their notes. Known edition and variant distinctions are noted where supported; a general issue entry does not specify every specimen-level variation. Separate manufacturers and reprints are not treated as the same issue. A rookie or early-issue label appears only when a cited source supports it. An entry without one makes no claim either way: a missing label does not mean the issue is not a rookie card, and no label is a rarity, value or investment claim. Format remains independent of rookie classification, so a sticker can have a qualified status.

Raw and graded research

Raw and Graded are research views of the same issue references. Raw checks concern the actual item’s identity and visible condition; Graded checks concern the company, full label, certification record and holder. The catalog does not contain individual sale copies, assigned grades or verified certifications. A certification-number match alone does not authenticate an offered item. Grading companies’ scales and autograph grades should be kept distinct. Changing the research view does not change which issues match a catalog search.

No market dataset

CardRoster’s four-sport catalog has no sold comparisons, market medians, population feeds or investment rankings. A card page may show the photo from one current eBay listing so you can see the card; that listing is chosen only because its title matches the exact year, release, number and edition, and it is not an appraisal, an authenticated copy or a recommendation. The embedded SluggerData companion has its own baseball sales research, dates, limitations and methodology. A source may show those facts on its own site; we do not import them or claim they are current here.

Images and limitations

Selected historical card-reference scans carry explicit underlying-artwork public-domain notices from their source pages. The credits describe their territorial scope and research limits; a scan uploader’s license alone is not treated as permission for modern card artwork. Scans illustrate issue identity without proving physical authenticity, original-versus-reprint status, condition or unshown reverse variants. Separately sourced fronts and backs are not represented as one physical specimen. A current eBay listing photo shows that seller’s copy as eBay supplies it; CardRoster does not store it, and it is never treated as a reference scan. Other entries use text references and original geometric icons. Licensed sport-context photographs depict equipment or places. Sources, creators, reuse notices and local changes appear on the Image credits page. A catalog record is not a listing, ownership record, grade or certificate.
